The Lion is brought dead into the world;
He awakens at his father's call
Here with purity faith joined issue,
and truth with high truth would fight.
For love's sake upon the issue of this combat
each risked his life,
Each had pledged his hand to the winning of honour
and fame in strife;
And the Christian, in God he trusted since the day
that he rode away
From the hermit. . . .
the knowledge-man a Christian and the will-man a heathen
But feeling mediates between the two, for the human heart is the
battleground between them
entirely given up to the Father forces,
And this is why he could not find the Son
